Health Education
Since 1998, FAP has provided San Bernardino County-funded HIV prevention/education and outreach services to men who have sex with men (MSM), injection drug users (IDU), and women at sexual risk (WSR), and youth at risk. Similar services have been offered by FAP in Los Angeles County since January 2005. Services are provided at non-clinical settings and public spaces where the target populations congregate.

FAP's Community Health Educators (CHE's) provide information and education on the following:
  • Risk transmission and methods of prevention
  • Type of HIV antibody test used
  • The meaning of the test result
  • Referrals for services for those who test positive
CHE's participate in face-to-face individual and group interventions, providing education and information for the following:
  • Referral for HIV testing to those at risk
  • Provision of other referrals if needed
  • Distribution of outreach packets, including educational materials, condoms, pocket-size cards with the AIDS Hotline and agency phone number
